Planning a long weekend walk

Pack a flask and a map and you're most of the way there.

Pick a circular route so you finish at the car or the station. National Trails and local walking groups publish routes with distances and terrain.

Pack a waterproof, a warm layer, water, something to eat and a charged phone with the route saved offline. A flask of tea makes a cold lunch stop much better.

Tell someone where you're going and when you expect to be back, especially on hills. Check the forecast the night before and again in the morning.
